Sunny Rhyl Allotment - 2007 |
||
|
01/05/2007 With the iminent arrival of 4 Chickens, I had to beef up the defences on the Sunny Rhyl Allotment. The Chickens can have free range of the garden but the veg patch is definately out of bounds. I bought some wooden stakes and a roll of mesh fence.
After a week or two waiting, the Carrots are just about breaking through. I am just seeing tiny shoots coming through. My potatoes are doing well in their buckets. I have topped them up with compost and will probably only get on more top-up before the buckets are full. The Runner Beans have taken well to their container and are marching up the canes.
The Broccoli plants have been thinned out and I have 5 fragile looking plants that are looking like they could make it. I planted out my Dwarf French Beans. Having gone ballistic whilst indoors, they seem to be in a state of shock outside. The wind has not been kind to them, with several leaves having been lost. We'll just have to see :)
The onion sets are flying high, all looking very healthy.
I planted Garlic but have been informed that I am way too late with it. There are signs of growth, but it may well turn out to be a learning experience. Back in the house, the Celery looks healthy as do the Tomatoes, Corgettes, Cucumber and Leeks. The strawberry seeds have germinated but they look miles behind everything else. If I get a Strawberry of any of them this year I will eat my hat!!!
As a contingency, I did buy some 'proper' Strawberry plants from the local garden centre. I also bought some F1 Tumbler Tomato plants. I grew these last year and they looked great in containers. Both the shop bought Strawberries and the Tumbler Tomatoes have been potted up and are now outside.
Thats about it for now. Can't wait for the Summer to kick in :) Happy Days!!
