04/09/2007 With no greenhouse, I have been at the mercy of the great British summertime. Despite the wind and rain, we have had a steady supply of Tomato's. The GD's in the pot have been slow.
The growbag Moneymaker's have been even slower
Blight or something else nasty has wiped out lots of plants this summer.
The Runnerbean wigwam has been a great success.
From 8 plants, I currently have a lone Bell Pepper currently about the size of a small plum!
The Celery is looking healthy.
The stars of the show so far are the Leeks. Earthing up is on the to-do list.
The French Beans have been cropping consistantly.
The last Broccoli plant bolts! I think I could have had a crop from this plant but 2 days away and I came back to a lovely yellow display.
The Sweetcorn has been looking good for a while now.
I had been eagerly awaiting picking and eating the first cob. The last time I had eaten corn as fresh as this, I was a 7 year old living in Swaziland. The taste brought back many fond memories of a wonderfully simple way of life. Priceless!!!!!!!!!!
All the Onions have now been picked and are in storage in the chicken house. What we have eaten so far are fantastic. The striking difference between these homegrown Onions compared to the supermarket bought ones, is that the homegowns bring tears to your eyes when peeling them.
Happy Days!!
