Sunny Rhyl Allotment - 2007 |
||
|
28/06/2007 With the recent rain having made my watering can pretty much redundant, I have had little to occupy myself with in the allotment. Some weeding of the plot and the application of some slug pellets were the only real chores this month. The Sweetcorn is healthy. The wind had caused some listing, but having added some compost to the base of the plants and reseating the mesh protection, they are all sanding tall and straight again.
The Onions are getting bigger by the day. The 4 of the Broccoli plants are doing well, with large broad leaves allround. 1 plant however, appears to have bolted. With flowers appearing, something has spooked this one.
Looks like we could be having French Beans for tea next week!
The Carrots and Celery are all fine.
I feel like the Pied Piper of Hamlen these days. The Chickens follow me everywhere! Constantly pecking at my legs and feet!
The Leeks all look healthy, with slow but steady growth.
The container area is looking greener by the day.
The Alpine Strawberries have fruited. I must say that they are both pulpy and sour. I'm not sure if they are mean't to be like this??
The Runner Beans are looking really good.
All the Bell Pepper plants are making steady growth. I lost one to slugs though.
The Moneymaker Tomatoes are climbing well.
The lone Squash, Gherkin and Cucumbers are small but healthy.
My F1 Tumbler Tomatoes are fruiting. However, I am concerned by them! They don't look healthy at all. With yellowing of the leaves and withering of the new flowers, I fear that they are on there way out. Any tips anyone??
My 1 Aubergene plant is going great guns.
The highlight of the week has to be the Potatoes. I turned out the first of the buckets. Low and behold, there was a great crop of lovely new Potatoes within. Boiled, salted and with butter added, they were the perfect compliment to a homemade Steak and Kidney pie!
Happy Days!!
