Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Kinmel Bay - 01/10/2005

Venue - Kinmel Bay
Tide - Low
Time - Day
Bait: Fresh Lug

Rick and I were invited by Sinbad to fish the precarious low water mark beyond the Perch. His local knowledge was a must. The access route only becomes apparent 30 mins before low.

The wind never gave up all day. The rain came in torrential waves.

Once in place, we had about an hour to fish before the sprint back to safety. I was told that the conditions were perfect for Bass from this location - a strong north westerly and a big tide.

After collecting the bait (Yellow Tails), we managed to get in place and cast out. The conditions were such that we were unable to reach our intended marks, just into the breakers. We had to settle for a severely wind inhibited 30yd cast each.

With the tide having turned, we were just seconds from retreating when my rod nearly dislodged itself from its rest. The result was a lovely marauding Bass of about 4.5lbs. No sooner had I got my breath back, Rick was into something. After a good fight, he eventually managed to land a Bass over 5.5lbs in weight and 2 ft in length. Sinbad managed to rescue his rod rest, which was now in 3 ft of water. It was definitely time to make a sharp exit from the oncoming tide. A wonderful experience!

Despite the wind and rain, we perservered and ended up happy chappies!!
