Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Kinmel Bay - 16/10/2006

Venue - Kinmel Bay
Tide - Low
Time - Day
Bait: Fresh Lug

The wind was coming off the land today and the tide was tiny. Not inspiring conditions but it is good to get out fishing anytime.

Back to the infamous low water mark at Kinmel Bay.

It's been a while since I last dug my own bait. Various time constraints had mean't that like last week, Geoff's Tackle shop saved the day for me. Armed with 2 packs of fresh lug, the session was on!.

Sinbad wasn't fishing today. Having bought a kayak recently, his mind was elsewhere. He did do me a big favour though. Instead of my usual 80yd cast, Sinbad was carrying my baited hooks out and dropping them in the water. With this method, I was getting my bait into 20ft of water and nearly 300yds out!!! Surely I couldn't fail today?

With 300yds of  line out and with the wind buffeting my rod tip, bite detection was going to be a problem. So it was to my surprise when my rod lurched over violently. Something really big had just hit my bait. Unfortunately, I reeled in a baitless hook and nothing else. Sinbad had it down as a Bass bite, a big one at that!

I rebaited and out Sinbad paddled again. This is the future!!!!! Forget this casting lark, get a friend with a kayak to take you to places you could only dream of reaching from the shore :)

Unfortunately that was it. Despite fishing at great distance, the fish were just not there.

I will definately be keeping on the right side of Sinbad for the forseable future(or as long as he keeps the kayak). 300yds is a mighty long way and could open up all sorts of opportunities.
