Venue - Kinmel Bay Enter the Warbird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15ft of pure carbon fibre goodness. Telescopic to boot. Watch out little fishies, I'm coming to get you!!!!!! Armed with my latest purchase, I was looking forward to getting a bit more range out of my (limited) casting ability. The Warbird is a replacement for my sadly demised 12ft Fladen. First impressions were good. Lighter than my existing 14ft rod, and slimmer too. Set up simply required each section being pulled out from within. After aligning the eyes it was good to go. I attatched my Shakespeare fixed spool reel and clipped on a 4oz gripper and a clipped down pennel rig with 1/0 hooks. After baiting up with a single fresh Lug and 2 small tips of Mackerel it was time for the big event. I moved down to the waters edge, unclipped the bail arm and let rip. The rig was despatched skyward at a great rate of knots. It seemed to stay in the air for ages. The result was a cast to match any I had managed in the past. With a bit of practice and some familiarisation, this set up looks like being a great investment. Another new purchase this week has been a Gemini unhooking tool. I was hoping that this was going to get christened today.
I had my 14ft Fladen out as well. With a 3 hook flapper loaded with a combination of the Lug and Mack.
With the best laid of plans, all that was needed now was a fish to take a liking to my offerings. The wait started here................
Still waiting.............
4 hours later, the Warbird was still waiting for it's first knock. No joy either for the 2nd rod. Nothing, not a sniff! Time to pack up and head to the chippy. The Warbird folded down easily. My plan is to stow it in the boot with the reel attatched.
Despite the lack of action, the scenery and tranquility made up for it all. I left a happy man :) Happy Days!!
