Venue - Kinmel Bay There was a strong SW wind forcast and I awoke at 6am to find out that the forcast was bang on! I poked my head out of the back door to carry out the Sunny Rhyl fishing test. Basically, can I light a ciggie in the present wind? With my ciggie lit, it was trip on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I arrived and set up just in time to take in a wonderful, if windswept sunrise.
The breakers were crashing in. With the sideways wind as well, todays problem would be holding bottom. I hooked on my largest weight, an 8oz gripper, I baited a 3 hook flapper with some great looking fresh lug from Victoria Pier Angling. First cast and the gripper held, just!
Unless a double figure fish hit my bait, I was in with little chance of detecting a bite. The rod tip was dancing about like a Deely Bopper! I reeled in and lo and behold, fish on!!!!!!! A dab to be exact. Perfect size for a light lunch.
The weed started to roll in, causing my gripper to breakaway and get pulled along the beach. Cast after cast, I was now unable to hold my tackle out there.
I was ready to pack up. With no chance of my weight holding, my thoughts had turned to a dab butty. With my last cast, I reeled in a surprise flounder. After setting him on his way, it was time to retire from the wind.
Happy Days!!
