Kinmel Bay - 10/03/2007 |

Venue - Kinmel Bay My intention today was to dig some bait over low water, and cast a hook out as I did so. Then move onto Kinmel Bay to fish over high. I arrived at the beach at low water and set up my Warbird telescopic rod. Disaster had struck when the tip broke off in my hands!
No chance of fishing over low, but I was here primarily to dig bait so I got on with it. I managed enough worms and headed home for dinner.
I took my broken Warbird along with my 12ft Fladen(also missing its end ring) to Geoffs Tackle Shop. 5 minutes later and just £3 lighter, I left with 2 fully serviceable rods. Cheers boys!!!!!!! I arrived at Kinmel Bay a few hours before high. I set up 2 beachcasters. The rigs used were a pulley pennel with 1/0's and a 3 hook flapper with 1/0's. I was using a combination of the freshly dug bait along with some worms I dug a few days ago.
First cast with the 12ft Fladen and I had a good double knock. Not a twitch, but a right good knock! I grabbed the rod and started reeling. Definately something nice on. I got it to about 20yds from the shore and it broke the surface giving me an adrenaline pumping glimse of silver! 10yds later and the line went slack! The fish had broken loose in the surf. Nightmare!!!!!!!!! I took some solice from the fact that I had seen the fish, if only for a fleeting second. I rebaited and recast. 10 minutes later the Warbird started nodding. I startd to reel in but it was clear that the fish was long gone. Over the next hour I had 2 other similar knocks that just led to nothing.
Dead on high water, the Warbird was banging again. This time the fish was hooked! Like earlier, he broke the surface and confirmed that he was another Bass. Luckily for me, this fish was landed. No great size but it was a beautiful fresh light silver colour. A nice fish.
He was set on his way and I could not get my rig back out fast enough. Over the next 2 hours I had 2 more knocks that didn't connect. Final cast with the Warbird and Bang! Another good fish on! After a panicky slack line moment, the fish was still on. I got him to the shallows and he was zig-zagging frantically infront of me. Finally he was dragged up onto dry land. Another Bass. This one was just shy of 3lb's.
I had another few casts but that was it. A great days fishing. I had lost more fish than I caught, but I did return home a very happy chappie indeed!!! Happy Days!!
