Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Kinmel Bay - 14/04/2007

Venue - Kinmel Bay
Tide - Low
Time - Day
Bait: Fresh Lug

Sinbad was keen to kick start his species tally for the year. He decided to target Rockling to basically get it out of the way :)

I arrived at Kinmel Bay early and found him making up a killer Rockling trace.

Beads were the order of the day, and he loaded his size 1 flapper snoods with large orange ones.

With a couple of Rockling already under my belt, I was after anything. A Bass would be nice, but any fish that saves a blank would be welcome today.

The temperature was close to hitting 20 degrees as we left Sinbads summer HQ and made the way down to the low water mark.

After picking our spot and setting up, bait was now required.

Despite the stones under the sand, we managed to get hold of some nice juicy lug......eventually :)

With a slight easterly wind, the sea was calm. We both cast out and waited.

Not for long! Sinbads home made killer Rockling rig had done the business!

With a 3 Bearded Rockling landed, I had to take my hat off to him. 40 years of fishing experience had clearly come into play here today. With Rockling targeted and caught on his first cast it was definately 'Mission Accomplished'!!

The fishing was slow over low water. No interest for either of us.

As the tide started its march back in it was my turn.

Honours were even when I pulled in a 3 Bearded Rockling.

A few more casts and a couple of cups of coffee later I had a right good knock. I grabbed the rod and started the retrieve.

No great weight but something was definately on. 50yds out and I caught a glimse of silver breaking through the surf.

A small Bass was duly landed.

He was sent on his way and we both rebaited and cast out in search of his bigger brother.

The tide was flying in by now. We had to make a rapid retreat through a couple of gulleys to get back onto a safe fishing position.

Sadly, that was it. No more bites.

We made our way back to Sinbads HQ for a debrief!

Happy Days!!
