Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Llandudno Pier - 01/08/2007

SCBU Competition

Venue - Llandudno Pier
Tide - 2hrs after High
Time - Night
Bait: Fresh Ragworm, Frozen Lug, Frozen Mackerel, Frozen Sandeel, Frozen Crab.

I decided to seek shelter from the strong SW wind by following Tus to fish beside the bar at the end.

First rig of the night was a 3 hook flowing scratch rig. Frozen Mackerel and Lugworm were to figure large in tonights chosen baits.

I was using my Abu Conolon uptider to drop down the side.

First drop and I sat down to eat my tea, a large Donner Kebab! I spied a knock and let it 'develop' whilst I satisfied my hunger.

Kebab finished, I picked up my rod and found my rig was snagged.

It duly snapped so no fish and a new rig required.

Next up was the old faithful, a 3-up, 3 hook flapper.

The knocks were coming thick and fast.

I managed to lose 3 fish on the lift.

Not sure what the problem was, but I decided to scale down the bait sizes in an attempt to rectify the situation.

Next to me, Tus was off the mark with severel Whiting.

I eventually started to land some fish.

Whiting was the order of the day.

Lug tipped with Mackerel was doing the trick for me.

To my right, Dabber44 (Graham) had been into the Whiting too.

For an hour or so, the bites were regular.

Warren decided to swap his Marshall's Hi-Vis jacket for a rod. At this point the bites stopped!

After some gentle ribbing, Warren was able to have the last laugh when he landed a couple of decent Whiting.

For the last 2 hours, the fishing was intermittant. When the bites did arrive, Whiting were the only fish showing.

Tus had been kept busy tonight. He did try the big baits for a while, but the monsters just weren't there..

The sound of the fighorn signalled the end of tonights competition.

Having landed 8 insize Whiting, I felt I could be in with a shout.

Indeed I was.

Tus also had 8 Whiting on his sheet.

The calculator came out and I ended up pipping Tus to win.

I had 8 Whiting to 221cm against his 8 to 219cm.

Great fun!

Thanks have to go to the Warren and Alan (Codfather) for marshalling tonight.

There were loads of raffle prizes on offer, from which I went home happy with a nice new Beachcaster.

Happy Days!!!
