Llandudno North Shore - 17/09/2006 |

Venue - Llandudno North Shore Sinbad and I decided to head for the North Shore for a dusk session over high tide. With such small tides this week, we were unable to collect any lugworm. So we phoned around a few local tackle shops only to be disappointed. No fresh lug anywhere! Morrisons came up trumps though. 3 fresh mackerel and 3 fresh squid. Added to that, I had some frozen lug and a few peeler crabs from my freezer. Game on!!!!! I picked Sinbad up from Kimnel Bay on the way through. I didn't recognise him! He was sporting his recently attained 'Shimano Mission Accomplished' Cap. Awarded in recognition of the fantastic 36lb Tope he caught rcently onboard Suveran out of Rhyl.
We arrived at 6.30pm, 2 hours before high tide. There were about a dozen people fishing. We found a nice big gap halfway between the first house and the paddling pool. I set up 2 rods. One with a 3 hook patternoster rig with 1/0's. I used lug and squid on one, mack on another and crab on the 3rd hook. I cast this lot out and sat back with my first cup of tea of the night. My 2nd rod was lying in wait with a 5 hook string of feathers. Not for long though! Sinbad pointed out shoals of whitebait jumping out of the water and onto the shingle. There was definately something chasing the small bait fish. Out the feathers went. I tried them for about half an hour but with no luck. You have to try these things :) Sinbad was using a single 4/0 baited with mackerel. Like myself, he was having a quiet start to the session, and was also enjoying the sunset with a nice cuppa tea and a few ciggies. The crabs were oviously thankful of our prescence tonight. Out bait was getting stripped literally in minutes. We got to the stage where we were reeling in after 5 minutes to find out hooks bare.
We persevered and just as darkness fell, we were rewarded with our first bite of the night. I had a good knock that led to a small but spritely dogfish, caught on lug tipped with mackerel.
Sinbad was in shortly after. Again a dogfish. This one fell to a mackerel strip.
There was a steady stream of bites after this. We ended the night with 5 dogfish between us.
We packed up at about 10.30 and made are way back to Sunny Rhyl for a few beers before bedtime.
