Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Llandudno Pier - 26/01/2008

SCBU Competition

Venue - Llandudno Pier
Tide - 1hr before to 3hrs after Low
Time - Night
Bait: Frozen Lug, Frozen Mackerel, Frozen Squid.

Over 20 people turned up for tonights SCBU Charity Competition.

The end platform seemed to be the popular choice.

I decided to remain snag free by fishing by the bar.

Conditions were a bit gusty at times, but not enough to make it uncomfortable.

For me, the fishing was slow. With only the great view of the bay to keep me entertained.

The 3 hook rule suited me fine. A 2 up 1 down flapper was my rig of choice.

Small sections of Lug tipped with either Squid or Mackerel was the bait.

2hrs in and with only a few small knocks, I eventually hooked an undersize Whiting.

Unfortunately for me, it was to be my first and only fish of the night.

With such idealic settings though, it's the being there that really matters.

Chatting to others at the end of the match, it became apparant that the people fishing the end platform had considerably better fortunes.

Word had it that it was going to be close!

Codfather put us out of our misery and announced the results.

3rd - John Bates - 101.5cm

2nd - Tus - 135cm

1st - Ray - 136cm

It was a great event and it was great to meet friends old and new.

Good to see a few juniors out tonight. They all fared better than me.

Special thanks has to go to Allan (Codfather) for runing the competition single handed. He did a fantastic job!

See you all at the next one.

Happy Days!!!
