River Mersey Charter - Suveran - 15/01/2007 |

Venue - River Mersey Fished a 9 hr trip out of Liverpool Marina on Simon Parry's Suveran. Armed with big hooks and a freezer full of lug and squid, surely the elusive Mersey Cod were going to be in big trouble today!!!!!!! We pushed it fine again today, arriving in Liverpool with just minutes to spare.
We were met by Simon and made our way down into the Marina.
Safely onboard Suveran, it was into the lock.
Steve showing Simon his 1978 Liverpool Gold Sticker.
Out of the lock and into the river.
Big hooks and big baits were the order of the day.
Sinbad got off to a good start. A few Whiting were able to get their mouths around his 4 lug offering.
Then the action really started. Sinbad had a good knock on his Conolon, the rod bend signaled 'Cod on!!!'
A nice 2lb Cod to start the proceedings.
Wes was next up. Another nice fish.
Wilbur was into the Whiting, but had to wait till his last cast for a Cod bite. He got the Cod to the boat but is shook itslef off just as he was about to lift it in.
All was slow for me. 4 hours without a knock. I was glad of a Whiting to save the potential blank.
I kept watching the rod but things just weren't happening for me.
The crabs were filling their boots.
In between his eventual 3 Cod, Sinbad was kept entertained with the occasional Dab brave enough to take on his big baits.
Al had a nice 3lb Cod, and loads of Dabs and Whiting aswell.
Late on in the day, I eventually had a decent knock. Result was my one and only Cod of the day.
The fishing was patchy today. We could of dropped down the hook sizes and been into Dabs and Whiting all day. However, we persevered and managed to land 10 insize Cod to 3lb. Heard some reports of 5lb and 7lb fish being taken on the other boats. All in all, a great day out. The Cod just weren't playing the game but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. Happy Days!!!!!
