Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

River Mersey Charter - Warrior - 01/12/2006

Venue - River Mersey
Duration - 8 hrs
Bait: Frozen Lug, Mackerel, Squid
Boat - Warrior
Skipper - Alan Tinsley

Fished a 8 hr trip out of Liverpool Marina on Alan Tinsleys Warrior.

Having read recent reports, it seemed that the cod hadn't arrived in massive numbers as yet. Despite this, we had a trip booked and we were confident that skipper Alan would make the most of whatever the fishing conditions were.

Having found the Marina, Sinbad and I awaited the arrival of the rest of the boys.

With everyone accounted for, we made our way down to the floating pontoon in search of Warrior.

Liverpool Marina proved to be a great surprise to me. What an amazing place!

Newly developed on all sides, with what looks like very expensive appartments.

Sinbad asking Simon if there was any space in the Marina for a fully equipped Kayak.

The pontoon makes boarding the boats so much easier than jumping off the slipway at Priory Wharf.

We made our way out of the marina and headed down river to a mark that was between the Town Hall Steps and the funny 6 sided clock tower.

First cast and I was into a codling of about 2lbs.

Sinbad quickly followed. A nice 3lb codling took a liking to his lug and squid coctail.

A fair sized whiting was next up for me.

Paul had the biggest whiting of the day.

Al's whiting was no match for Paul's monster.

Another 2lb codling for me.

At slack water, we moved upstream and set anchor by the new stadium.

Lee had no luck with the codling but did have some nice dabs.

Sunset over Cammell Laird :) What is that question mark all about???

Paul hooked into something that seemed to be giving a good account of itself. He reeled in and an ASDA carrier bag broke the surface. Skipper Alan put the net away and we gave Paul a bit of good natured banter.

Paul had the last laugh though, hiding behind the carrier bag was a nice looking 3lb cod.

In all, we had 7 cod. 3 at 3lb, 2 2lbers and a couple of babies. All the cod were fresh into the river, so hopefully the fishing will pick up the the levels experianced last year.

Skipper Alan did a great job. The Tea/Coffee/Bovril was flowing all day.

We retired to the pub for a swift one before the journey home.

Tea tonight was Dab + Whiting + Cod Provinciale. Lovely it was too :)

Happy Days!!!!!
