Venue - River Mersey
Duration - 8 hrs
Bait: Lug, Squid
Boat - Warrior
Skipper - Alan Tinsley
Spent the day aboard Alan Tinsley's 'Warrior'. This was my first time
fishing the Mersey.
Loved the views from the River, with the contrast between the dockland
industry and
the surprisingly attractive city waterfront.
All the river traffic kept Sinbad happy. With his own AIS system, he is a
wealth of knowledge on all things nautical. His regular updates kept us
all informed of the 'goings on' on the river today.
The codling were a bit shy today, with only 4 caught between the seven of
us. Best fish went to Wes with a 4lb 3oz Codling. Wes is known locally as
the 'Squid King', his favoured bait proved a hit with the whiting, of
which he had many. Some nice size ones included.
I caught my first codling today(2 actually), best was about 2lbs. I had
several whiting and a couple of dabs too.
Everyone caught something. Al's son James, on his first boat trip, caught
4 whiting. Wilbur caught a sock(amongst other things).
The Skipper was both patient and informative. Giving many tips and
demonstrations on uptiding and lug/squid coctails. He kept us plyed with
tea and coffee all day.
Returned to the car park at Priory Warf to find the following note
attatched to my windscreen (cheeky gits!!!!!!)
Will definately try again next winter!
