Project Chicken - It's all coming together! - 22/05/2007

"Give a Chicken a Chance"

Four days in and things have been progressing well.

The hens have all been eating and drinking well, they have all been laying eggs, they have started to scratch around and a couple have even been spotted stretching their wings out and having a bit of a sunbathe.

Upto now the nest boxes haven't been used. The eggs have been found randomly throughout the run.

I decided to erect a makeshift ladder to enable easier access to the nest boxes. In addition, I have installed a ceramic egg in each box.

Lots of scratching around by all 4 today.

The run is looking barer by the minute. Fortunately, the run is only a temporary measure. Once they know where there bed is, it will be free range for these ladies.

We have had a bowl of water outside for them, but we would like them to utilise the drinker permanently in the future.

We had 3 eggs yesterday. Again, laid wherever they dropped by the look of things.

More progress again today.

All 4 hens have been scratching, sunbathing and eating every green leaf they can find.

We were presented with 4 eggs today. Those girls are definately rockin!!!!!!!!.

The highlights of today were finding an egg in a nest box and also all 4 made their way into their house just before dusk.

It is simply amazing to see how far they have come in just 4 days.

Happy Days!!!
