Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Rhyl Charter - Jensen II - 05/05/2008

Venue - Rhyl
Duration - 5 hrs
Bait: Fresh Lug, Frozen Squid, Frozen Razor, Frozen Prawn, Frozen Mackerel.
Boat - Jensen II
Skipper - Simon Parry

It was all last minute stuff.

Sinbad and I decided at 9pm last night to take a trip out on Jensen II.

With no preperation, we were left to the contents of my bait fridge to see us through.

Luckily we had some fresh Lug left over and along with some Frozen Razor, Frozen Prawn and Frozen Squid it was trip on!!!

Simon was skippering Jensen II today and to his credit he had been foraging in the harbour before the trip to see if he could find some Peeler Crab for us.

Sadly not, but a fine effort for a skipper to be digging in the dirt prior to a charter.

On the day of his 22nd birthday, it was very much appreciated by Sinbad and myself.

On arrival it was great to see such calm conditions.

Sinbad admiring Supreme II, A fine vessel!

With mud still on his boots, Simon arrived and it was time to embark on our first charter of 2008.

3 hook flowing traces were to be the most used rig of the day.

Mackerel chunks for the chance of a Ray. smaller pieces for the Doggies, worm baits for the Dabs, Squid tips for the Whiting.

With no Crab, Prawn and Squid was going to have to do if we wanted to target the Smoothies.

With Mackerel on, Sinbad was into Whiting from the off.

Next drop, with the shout of 'Rod' from the skipper, Sinbad managed to catch hold of the butt of hisConolon just before is disappeared into the blue.

With a rod bend and a half, he signalled he was into something decent.

Simon got the net ready and we waited anxiously for a glimse.

Sinbad kept his head and calmly retrieved line until a good Ray broke the surface.

Netted and landed, this Thornback Ray weighed in at a shade over 10lb's.

I'll have some of that!!!!!!

On with the Mackerel, I dropped down awaiting something similar.

I good knock had me reeling in.

Result was a small Smoothound.

With Crab being their favoured bait, it was with some surprise seeing this little fella.

There were plenty of Dogfish being landed.

After high water, the Dabs arrived.

Good sized ones at that!

Still more Whiting.

Next up for me was another Smoothie.

This one weighed in at 5lb and was caught on a 3 hook scratch rig baited with Lugworm tipped with Squid.

In the end, the 5hr trip seemed like it was over in the blink of an eye.

The short trip back in gave Sinbad just enough time to enter that semi-conscious state that soaks up great memories like a sponge.

Species caught today were..........Dab, Whiting, Dogfish, Smoothound and Thornback Ray.

Not bad for 2 people fishing in the first week in May!

Happy Days!!!!!
