Rhyl Charter - Jensen II - 16/06/2007 |

Venue - Rhyl Having had our 7hr trip on Suveran blown off on Friday, Sinbad and I were delighted to take up Tony Parry's offer of a 5hr trip on Jensen II the following day. It was all last minute stuff. Tony had been let down at the eleventh hour and was kind enough to set sail with just the 2 of us. So with more space than we could ever ask for, we headed out for a spot of general fishing.
With yesterdays cancellation, we had fished Rhyl beach in an ambitious attempt to catch a Smoothound from the shore (we failed!!!!). Consequently, today, we only had 3 crabs left. We stopped for a couple of casts at the Smoothy mark to no avail. Next stop was the windfarm.
The Mackerel were in, but patchy. We already had Fresh Lug and Frozen Squid, so a few Mackies suplemented our bait.
I went straight onto worm baits on a 3 hook flowing scratch rig.
Sometimes when you are out fishing, you just want to relax. Feeling obliged to photograph everything, I never seem to get a minute.
The result......
Sinbad was doing a Del! Big hooks and large Mackerel baits in the hope of something decent. It wasn't long before I was pulling in the small stuff. The Dabs were loving the Lug.
After tipping off with Squid, the Doggies showed.
More Dabs were followed with more Doggies and a Tub Gurnard.
Sinbad had a brave Dogfish take a whole Mackerel. Next cast and Sinbad had a screeming reel. A big fish was definately on!! He struck into it but it had gone! Tony ribbed Sinbad by saying that a better fisherman would have let the bite develop :) Next cast and another run. This bite did develop! Sinbads Conolon was bent double as he set about giving and taking line.
A good fight and eventually a good Tope came into view. Tony got the net out and the fish was duly landed. It weighed in at 29lb.
After this I switched to a big hook (as you do ). I had a great run that got my pulse racing. I waited for the 2nd run but there was nothing there! No weight whatsoever. Not even my 6oz lead! I reeled in to find my braid scuffed and cut. Probably cut on a rock. I persevered with the big stuff for the rest of the trip but I was not destined to follow in Sinbads footsteps. It was nearly time to return when Sinbads patience again paid off. Another run had Tony reaching for the net. Sinbads 2nd Tope of the day broke the surface. It was safely netted and weighed in at 30lb.
Sinbad was a very happy chappie indeed!!!!!!! We returned having had a great little session. Happy Days!!!!!
