Rhyl Charter - Suveran - 04/08/2006 |

Venue - Rhyl Fished a 8 hr trip out of Rhyl on Simon Parry's Suveran. The strong winds of the previous week had subsided just in time for our charter to be given the green light. All the boats were out today. The wind still made the first few hours of our trip a bit lumpy. It was a question of 'hang on' for the journey out to our intended mark. Due to the swell, the offshore mark that had produced well for us a few weeks ago was not an option today. We did still get out a good way though.
Amongst the 6 of us, we were fishing a combination of big hooks, big baits and small scratch rigs. Mackerel was the favoured bait by most, although Lug, Squid and Crab were also used. My species count had a boost with this Scad.
Sinbad added to his tally for the year with this nice Red Gurnard.
A welcome visitor today was this seal. He spent a couple of hours with us and used his charm to keep himself in mackerel for the afternoon.
Simon had a Red Gurnard of 1lb. I also had a Red. My first.
Sinbad's species tally started to gather pace when he had a lovely Grey Gurnard.
The term 'Pan Sized Dab' is often over used. Not today though. Sinbad's dad will need a bigger pan when he fries this one up.
The big hooks had no luck today. Species caught were.......... Dogfish, Dabs, Whiting, Scad, Mackerel, Tub Gurnard, Grey Gurnard, Red Gurnard. I enjoyed the whole day. However, the highlight for me had nothng to do with the fishing. It has to be the Bovril. It has been over 20 years since I sampled the delights of the hearty beefy drink. I had 2 cups today and loved it!!! Most definately on the Sunnyrhyl shopping list from now on!!! Happy Days!!!!!
