Rhyl Charter - Suveran - 05/10/2007 |
||
|
Venue - Rhyl With such fantastic weather, Sinbad arrived early to have a half hours ponder of what was to come.
For a change, flat calm conditions greeted us as we arrived for a late summer charter onboard Suveran.
We made our way down the slipway to board our boat.
Having managed to get hold of some fresh lug and some crab, Bass, amongst other things, were to be targetted today. Alongside the usual boat gear, most of us dug out our spinning rods and lures. First stop was Llandulus. The crab baits were loaded onto 3/0 Penel rigs and dropped down.
The spinning rods were set up and we had an hour on the lures. I favoured the Dexter Wedge, but there was a right assortment of other set-ups being used on the boat. Ray spotted the sight of a large group of Seagulls feeding on the horizon.We just had to up-anchor and take a look.
Unfortunately, the feeding frenzy had sudsided by the time we arrived. Worth a try though. With no Bass showing, we headed out offshore to 'Rocky II', a well known Huss mark that is only fishable on the smaller tides. In search of tonights tea, I switched to a 2up, 1down flapper. Target for me would be fish for the table. Namely Dabs and Whiting. Most of the other lads stuck with the larger Pennel rigs, with strips of Mackerel used to entice the promised Bull Huss. I was straight into my target species and it didn't take long for the rest of the boat to find theirs. The Huss were in! Ray with his first of many.
Rick had been into the species. With Tub and Grey ticked off his Gurnard list, he too found the Huss.
Sinbad had lost severel decent fish. Eventually, he started to land them. This one managed to 'rub' a chunk of skin off his thumb. Being a previous holder of the Welsh Bull Huss record, you would have thought he would have learnt how to handle them by now. Simon was on hand with the first aid kit.
Another nice specimen for Ray.
Even the bait trap was pulling them in!
As is usually the case, Simon had the best fish of the day. This one weighed in at 13lb.
With Crab and Fresh Lug left, we made our way back to Rhyl to fish the Smoothound mark for the last hour. Again, Bass was hoped for but the last hour saw us overrun by Dogfish with a good amount of decent Whiting showing too. That was just about it. We had headed out in search of Bass, but ended up having a great session with the Huss. The short trip back inshore was barely long enough for us to reflect on what had been yet another fantastic trip onboard Suveran. Species caught today were..........Mackerel, Dab, Grey Gurnard, Tub Gurnard, Whiting, Dogfish and Bull Huss.
Happy Days!!!!!
