Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Rhyl Charter - Suveran - 18/08/2006

Venue - Rhyl
Duration - 8 hrs
Bait: Lug, Mackerel, Squid
Boat - Suveran
Skipper - Simon Parry

Fished a 8 hr trip out of Rhyl on Simon Parry's Suveran.

Simon informed us that the Tope had been showing in abundance over the last few days. So our provisional plans of looking for some bream  were rapidly changed to make today a(nother) Tope Hunt !!!

The wind was slight and the sea was calm, but the forcasted rain was to make this a wet one.

Tony Parry and Steve Andrews were both quick to congratulate Sinbad on breaking his Tope duck a few weeks ago.

We set off to a mark 10 miles offshore.

Stopping on the way to get some Mackerel for bait. Unfortunately, there were no Mackerel about!!!!!

Not to worry, we carried on to the Tope mark and hoped we would find some there.

We did!! And shortly after, we swapped the feathers for some nice big Tope rigs.

Within minutes, Paul's reel screemed off and the phrase 'Tope On!' was heard (not for the last time today!).

Result was Paul's first ever Tope. This one crept into double figures.

Wilbur was still feathering for Mackerel when his rod was nearly pulled from his hands. After a good fight, he landed his first ever Tope of about 8lbs.

After switching to a big hook, he had lots more .........

Wilbur lost loads of tackle today. He had Tope biting through feathers and scratch rigs at an alarming rate. The Tope were taking absolutely anything!!!

Sinbad was getting bite after bite.

He landed 7 Tope today.

On the back of the boat, Al and his son James were being kept busy. 8yr old James landed several Tope, Al assisted by holding his legs to prevent him getting pulled in!!!

Al landed the biggest fish of the day. Weighing in at 25lb's. He had others too, all fell to baited feathers :)

My own Tope Duck was well and truly put to bed today. I landed 12 in all. Biggest was this one, caught on baited feathers!!!

It really was an amazing day. Everyone caught Tope. Whatever we targetted, we could not help but hook tope. We caught them on baited feathers, bare feathers, scratch rigs. They were taking lug, squid and mackerel. It didn't matter what was offered, the Tope took it.

We caught more Tope than Mackerel today. The final tally between us was 43 :)

Happy Days!!!!!
