Rhyl Charter - Suveran II - 29/05/2008 |
||
|
Venue - Rhyl The conditions were for the most part warm, dry and calm.
Six us set sail onboard Suveran II.
Plan A for today was to head out towards the windfarm for some general fishing.
The chosen mark fishes well for Black Bream during summer months. We were hoping they had arrived early.
Mackerel was targetted first. They were patchy but we did manage enough for todays bait and also some for the table. Surprisingly (to me), there were more Herring showing than Mackerel. A variety of rigs were used amongst us. 3 hook flowing scratch rigs, 3 hook paternosters, Sabiki's and, for the more adventurous, Tope traces. I stuck with the small hooks and was happily bringing in Dagfish, good sized Dabs and any amount of Whiting. A few Tub Gurnard were caught. Rick had the only Red of the day.
The Black Bream had eluded us. We decided to head further offshore and look for some Huss or even an early Tope. With the Douglas Platform looming large, we dropped anchor and most opted for the Tope traces.
It didn't take long for the large Mackerel baits to get some interest. Wes was letting his bites develop whilst Dan was straight into a decent Huss.
Lee was on form today, this Huss was the first of many for him.
Again, another good Huss for Lee. This one weighed in at a shade under 10lb.
Meanwhile, Wes's bite had now developed into another Huss.
The general fishing was great here too. Good Dabs, Whiting and the occasional Gurnard were showing. The Tope were not in attendance, but I'm keen to revisit this mark again soon. The time had flown by as usual. In the blink of an eye it was time to head back inshore for the next target. Smoothound! 3/0 Single hook or Pennel traces were the rig of choice at this mark. Within seconds of dropping down, Wes was into the action.
I followed suit with another.
Wes and Lee were catching the Smoothies for fun!
Bob joined in .
Dan with another Starry.
All in all, it was a great days fishing. The Bream and Tope had escaped us but there was enough action to keep everyone entertained throughout. Species caught today were..........Mackerel, Herring, Red Gurnard, Tub Gurnard, Dab, Whiting, Poor Cod, Dogfish, Bull Huss and Smoothound.
Happy Days!!!!!
