Fished Rhyl beach today, low to high. I was joined by Del The Dab. It was his first sea fishing outing for several years.
We arrived 1 hour before low to gather some bait. There were just about enough yellow tails showing to see us through. We also managed to find a few peelers to help us out. After all, this was a Bass hunt!!

Del has had some good sized Bass over the years, including several in double figures. Whiting and dabs just don't excite him. 'Big hooks, big baits' was his answer to my question of tactics for this venue. Del was using a size 4/0 pennel rig, baited with 2 lugworm and the occasional peeler.
Unlike Del, I am happy catching anything. So I opted initially for a 2 hook flapper with 1/0's. Using a single yellow tail per hook.
The weather forcast was bang on. Strong South Westerly giving way to a moderate Westerly. There was a strong surf which gave us problems holding bottom throughout the day. 8oz grippers just about did the job.

We fished various gulleys as the tide came in. Bites were thin on the ground. Although, due to the wind we would have struggled to see them anyway.

Del came well equiped, armed with a packed lunch and a folding chair he put me to shame!

He must have had a late night because he managed a 20 minute nap late into the afternoon. It took a wave breaking over his knees to wake him.

The sun did put in an appearance later in the day.

2 hrs from high, the wind had calmed down slightly. I had a small knock that led to a bass of about 1lb.

Del managed to fall into a hole after wading out to cast and ended up soaked from the chest down. His experiance counted again when he was able to fetch a change of clothes from his car!

Great fun in exhilarating conditions.
