Sunny Rhyl Sea Fishing Diary

Splash Point , Rhyl - 17/12/2006

Venue - Rhyl, Splash Point
Tide - Low
Time - Day
Bait: Frozen Lug, Frozen Sandeel, Fresh Yellow Tails

Desperate to clear a 2 day old hangover, I fished Splash Point in Rhyl this afternoon. 2 hrs before low to 2 hours after.

I fished 2 rods. Both with 2 hook 1/0 flappers. The beachcaster was used to whack it out and the spinning rod covered anything patroling closer in.

I had some refrozen lug left over from our recent charter trip. I used this early on, tipped off with some frozen sandeel. I had taken my bait pump with me, but with a fairly small tide, it was only close to low tide that any casts were showing. Even then, there weren't many.

First cast with the beachcaster and the rod was soon knocking. A double header of flounders made it a great start to the day.

Whilst unhooking them, the spinning rod started to go. Same again, another brace of flounder.

Blimey! 4 fish in the first 10 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in with a chance of my biggest ever beach fishing bag.(that was 5 - all dogfish from Llandudno North Shore earlier this year)

I didn't have to wait long to equal my record. Next cast, another decent flounder.

Approaching low tide and everything had gone quiet. I was able to get my breath back , light a ciggie and have a nice sweet cup of coffee.

A couple of lug casts had started to show, so I got the pump out and managed about a dozen fresh worms.

With the fresh lug onboard, both rods again sprang into life.

Only pin whiting, but that was more than enough for me to increase my  personal best.

Soon after, the dabs showed up. Well 2 actually, but again my tally was ever increasing.

A few more pin whiting and another flounder rounded off quite a memorable day for me.

12 fish in total - 6 Flounder, 2 Dabs + 4 Whiting.

Hangover well and truly cured!!!!!!!.

Happy Days!!!!!!!!!!
