We came armed with some Squid, Sandeel, Frozen Lug and some 'Crab Parcels' that Del had bought on eBay. In addition, we were able to dig some fresh Lug.
We both fished 2 rods.
Del was using clipped down 3/0 Pennel rigs. I opted for a 2 hook flowing flattie trace and a 2 hook paternoster. Both with 1/0's I used my 15ft Fladen Warbird at range and also my little Berkley Cherrywood spinning rod close in. We both cast out and set about gathering some fresh Lug. I had heard reports of Algae Bloom locally over the last week. I am no expert but the stink coming from the sea and the brown sediment made me believe we were suffering a bout of 'Oranjeboom' here tonight. A couple of Seals turned up. Well within casting range. A great sight to see, but we were concerned that this may affect our chances tonight. There was nothing doing for a few hours. Low water came and went without a knock between the 4 rods.
As the tide turned, the sea appeared to clear. The sediment disappeared and the smell subsided. Del landed a crab. Not a great catch but it did give us encouragement that sea life was at last within range.
Next cast and Del caught the first fish of the session. A small dab had got itself hooked on the top hook of his Pennel rig. After 3 hours without a sniff, I eventually had a small knock on my beachcaster. I reeled in and low and behold, a small Bass had fancied some fresh Lug.
It was pretty frantic for me from then on. My spinning rod started to twitch. A small Plaice was landed, again on fresh Lug.
Next cast on the spinning rod and bang, a better knock this time. Result was a better Bass.
The action was definately close in and on fresh Lug. A Dab was next quickly followed by 2 Silver Eels.
I finished off with a small Whiting. Most fish tonight were caught close in and on Fresh Lug. A great session in fantastic conditions. With a sunset to die for, it was a pleasure just being out there.
Total for the day between us was 2 Dabs, 2 Bass, 2 Eels, 1 Plaice + 1 Whiting. Happy Days !!!!!!!!!!
