Splash Point , Rhyl - 13/01/2007 |

Venue - Rhyl, Splash Point In most part he was referring to the fact that within 1 hr of arriving at the train station he had found a hotel room for £8.50 a night, had sex with the hoteliers daughter and discovered that it was 50p a pint all night!!!!!! Rockin' Rhyl indeed! Well today it was certainly Rockin' Rhyl again!!!!! I had my personal best here a few weeks ago. So it was with great anticipation that I returned to Splash Point over low water. I had a selection of frozen baits. Lug and Sandeel as per usual, with the addition of Squid and Mackerel.
2 rods were set up. My 14ft Fladen and the little Berkley spinning rod. With 3 hook flappers on each, I baited up various combinations of my available bait.
The wind has been blowing solidly for weeks now and today was no different. It was strong and from the SW. Luckily, the forcast rain held off.
It was action from the off. First cast and a plump Flounder took a liking to the Lug at distance.
Another Flounder followed straight after.
Then another.
Whilst the beachcaster had been into fish from the off, it was all quiet close in with the spinning rod. Not for long though. A double header of Whiting proved that there were fish within 15yds of the shore.
Next cast and it was a triple header this time! All caught on Mackerel.
Shortly after, it was triple heaven again. This time 2 Whiting were joined by a Dab.
The beachcaster sprung into action again. Another few Dabs were caught in quick succession.
Next up was a 3 Bearded (or was it 5 Bearded) Rockling. Caught close in on Lug.
After a gap of an hour or so, the Flounder returned. This double header both fell to Lug at close range.
I packed the spinning rod up in the end as I was struggling to keep up with everything. Still they kept coming!!!!!! Another triple Whiting + Dab combo.
Even more Dabs.
I was loving this!!!!!!!!!!! At the end of it all it was 7 Dabs, 6 Flounder, 7 Whiting and a Rockling giving me a new personel best shore catch of 21 fish. I could have stayed all day. The fishing was still strong as I left. All the baits caught today. The Mackerel seemed good for everything, the Lug did well and the Squid was only used to tip off with. With only a fair sized Dab and a half decent Whiting, today was more about quantity than quality. No complaints from me though :) Rockin' Rhyl !!!!!!!!!!
