Bait: Frozen Lug, Frozen Mackerel

After the severe storms on Thursday, the wind had died down (a bit). It had gone from hurricane force to a far more pleasant gale force :) With a westerly component, it made for difficult fishing conditions.

I set up the beachcaster with a 3 hook flapper baited with frozen Lug and frozen Mackerel. With the breakers so big and the wind so strong I had no option than to use an 8oz gripper.

First cast and it was touch and go as to whether my weight was going to hold.

It did, for a minute or two! There after, it started on a rapid journey along the shoreline to my right.

My line snapped  when I eventually attempted to reel in.

This was to be the story of the day!!!!!!!

My line snapped 3 times today. Not at the knot to the leader, but just 'the line'. Not exactly sure why. No doubt it was my fault. Maybe the combined weight of the gripper and the wind on the line. I'm not entirely sure how long mono lasts. Does it need replacing each season?. The reel I was using today is about a year old and the 15lb Ultima F1 was loaded onto it from new.

At least I didn't lose a fish to a snapped line. With no bites all day I had to cut the session short because I had run out of gripper leads.

Windy Days !!!!!!!!!!
