I set up 2 rods. One with a 1/0 clipped down pennel baited with fresh Lug tipped with Mackerel. The other was loaded with a 3 hook flapper with a combination of Lug and Mack. 6oz grippers looked to be the order of the day.
I cast out and waited.
I was struggling to hold bottom with both rigs. They seemed to hold for a while and eventually, a few bits of weed was enough for them to start their march eastwards along the surf. Bite detection was going to be fun! Both rod tips were dancing about like crazy. 1hr before low, I sensed an unusual twitch on the flapper rig. I reeled in and found that a small Codling had taken a fancy to a sliver of Mackerel.
He was duly returned and immediately the other rod was going. This time it felt slightly better. Indeed it was, a chubby Codling of about 1lb. Caught on fresh Lug tipped with Mackerel.
Again, he was sent on his way. I fished until 3hrs after low water. No other bites. I was knackered in the end. I had landed several carrier bags(Tesco), numerous pieces of cellophane, plastic sheeting and loads of weed. Time to head home for a cat nap :) Happy Days !!!!!!!!!!
