Splash Point , Rhyl - 31/12/2007 |

Venue - Rhyl, Splash Point I arrived armed with the trusty Warbird. Horror of all horrors, the end tip broke off in my hands whilst tackling up. I had to return home to fetch a replacement. Exit the 'Warbird', enter the 'Enticer'!!!!!! My 12ft Abu Enticer has had light usage mainly down to the fact that I have been more than happy with the Warbird. Today it was going to get a first team appearance. After all the faffing about, I eventually got set up and cast out an hour after low.
Fresh Lug sections tipped with frozen Mackerel were the order of the day. The 'Alan Price' 2up, 1down flapper was cast out with the standard 4oz gripper.
There was a slight Southerly wind blowing. The sea was coloured but calm.
It didn't take long for the action to start. Some very tentative bites were displayed by the Enticer. I was struggling to distinguish between the slight buffeting of the wind and an actual bite. My tactic was to let potential bites develop longer that usual. First retrieve and my patience paid off. A Dab and a small Whiting combo.
Next cast and there was no mistaking this bite. A decent Whiting had given a good account of itself.
A few more bites and eventually another Dab followed.
A brace of Dabs was next up.
This was great fun. The tide was pushing me back by now. Time for one last cast before crossing the last gulley. Again, another Dab was the result.
I had a couple of casts into the final gulley, but things had gone quiet.
Time to pack up and head home. The Enticer had been a decent substitute today.
I will get the Warbird sorted soon though. Also out today were Steve and his mate from Wrexham. They had done well with Flounder, Dabs and Whiting. They were fishing Frozen Lug and Frozen Mackerel. Total for the day for me was 5 Dabs and 2 Whiting. Happy New Year !!!!!!!!!!
